Thousands protest in the streets of Caracas Venezuela after Chavez shuts down the country’s most-watched TV station

Presidente Hugo “Boss” Chavez’s decision not to renew the broadcast license of the country’s most-watched TV station, an outlet for the only opposition in the country caused thousands of protestors to pour into the streets of Caracas today.

Police lined a Caracas avenue while the protesters paraded past, some holding signs reading “No to silence,” while others placed tape over their mouths.

Radio Caracas Television, the sole opposition-aligned TV station with nationwide reach, is due to go off the air at midnight Sunday. Protesters say that by not renewing RCTV’s license, Chavez is attempting to silence critics of his leftist government.

“Our president wants to control everything, even what we watch on television, so his voice is the only voice on the airwaves,” said Roger Montoya, a 23-year-old university student at Saturday’s march. “It’s totalitarianism.”">

Tens of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets Saturday chanting “Freedom, Freedom!” to protest President Hugo Chavez’s decision not to renew the broadcast license of the country’s most-watched TV station, an outlet for the opposition.

Meanwhile, attorneys for Citgo were back in the USA after weeks of talks of offers to sell off Citgo assets. They got back just in to join Citgo marketing executives in box seats for the Indy 500. To watch Milka Duno races the Citgo cart to 30th place.

That’s how socialism works. The rich political socialsitst get richer, the middle class get stripped and the poor, uneducated masses chant “Viva Hugo Chavez.”

Race Car Driver Milka Duno to Make Movie Debut in Speed Racer
Venezula's first lady of MotorSport is more than just a pretty face. Talent, beauty and brains are an unbeatable combination to find in a woman. When the woman is one of the top race car drivers in the world and possesses all three it's a sure bet that eventually Hollywood will come calling. Second-year IndyCar driver Milka Duno never aspired to a movie career, but she has enough of one now for her to need a dress for the April 26 premiere of the Wachowski Brothers' Speed Racer. The film will be big box office when it opens across the country on May 9th. Duno, a 35-year-old former sports car racer who is scheduled to undertake 11 races this season, has a role as Kellie 'Gearbox' Kalinkov, whom she describes in her accent as a 'Roo-ssian race car driver, very eccentric and aggressive.'' Of course, her first rate driving style made her particularly qualified for the role. She participated in seven starts last season, with her only official retirement by 'accident' came in the Indianapolis 500.

Monday - We got up at 6am and drove to Lime Rock Park. Pulled in at the same time as the GS race started. We missed the first 15-20 minutes parking and setting up camp. We would have been there on time if Torrington, CT didn't have a Memorial Day parade. They detoured us around, and there was a lot of traffic. I was very very very very very upset! (touring car + memorial day = parade detour) Memorial day should be spent at home with your family or at a race track. No parades on monday! Race was good. Kids and Kate held up pretty well. We were all tired at the end, 6.5 hours of racing total. Paul Edwards got heckled in winners circle by some drunk idiot. The funny part was he responded to the drunk guy.

Sunday - We went to a Memorial day parade (more on those later)had marching bands, fire trucks, no unicycles. oliver and I went back to the train station to see more trains. Saw the Acela go by (doesn't stop there) 130mph, very very fast!

Saturday - We went to the Beach and Aunt Carrie's for clam cakes. I noticed some action out in the ocean. We went over the the Point Judith lighthouse. There was a wreck recovery boat. They were removing the "Blue Sea" a 63" fishing boat from Long Island that ran aground about 200ft from the lighthouse and Coast Gaurd station. We watched and ate clam cakes.
Oliver and I also went to the Kingston RI Amtrak station and watched trains for a bit. Nice old 1800's restored train station still used as an Amtrak station.
Happy Birthday, Noah!

Some photo highlights of Philip's graduation this morning at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley. It was a beautiful morning, and Philip was one of only 2 people receiving a Master's degree in Range Management. After the graduation we took some photos of Philip around campus, then had a nice lunch with our friend Rebecca and my dad. We are now headed to the department party at Philip's advisor's house.
Rachel

Congratulations Phil on receiving your Masters from the University of California at Berkeley today.

We went to the flea market near Guptill's and the 60th annual Tulip festival. Weather was great 70 and sunny. Tulip fest was packed but we found a good spot behind the Washington armory. Stupid comment overheard at Tulip fest "At least there is one advantage to global warming, these tulips look wonderful." Did I mention 60th annual? I guess they weren't so "wonderful" in 1948. It doesn't matter Toyota was there to power the whole thing with a huge diesel generator. Maybe if I put a "Hybrid Synergy Drive" emblem on my truck it would be Ok with the tree huggers.

Milka Duno didn't even try to qualify on pole for the Indy 500. As a result the Blob has pulled it's support of Milka Duno. We were hoping for a Two Ndinjas replacement since he has vanished from the racing scene. Milka clearly wasn't meant to be that replacement.

In support of Milka Duno's run for the Indy 500 Pole on Saturday the Brownsey Family Blob has taken on a more energetic look. The Venezuelan will be making her second attempt in her career to start from the front row at the Indy 500. In 2007 she narrowly lost out of becoming the Indy 500 as well as the IndyCar rookie of the year.

She was born in Caracas, Venezuela and has been an active supporter of Hugo Chavez. Chavez, along with the blobs friend Joe Kennedy give reduced price heating oil to the poorest of Americans in the northeastern United States. Her relationship with Hugo Chavez resulted in her inclusion in Citgo's "EnergĂa Latina" marketing campaign.

Milka Duno has an impressive racing resume, having raced in the ALMS, and Grand-Am GT and prototype classes. She has raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Lemans, 24 Hours of Daytona(finished 2nd overall), and the Petit Lemans(2 class wins). Having conquered the sports car world she moved on to open wheel racing last year. In addition to her racing credentials she also holds four masters degrees in: Naval Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Business, and Fishing.

The Brownsey Family Blob is in complete support of her efforts as she takes to the 2.5 mile track on Saturday to make history. Today is the last day of testing at Indy before Saturday's Pole Day.

To follow Milka's progress on Fast Friday, watch live timing and video at Indycar.com. On Saturday ESPN2 and ABC will be live from Indy from 12-7PM.

Check out Milka's "EnergĂa Latina" commercial below as well as an interview from her at the speedway earlier this week.

The hummingbirds are back.
