Joel and I cooked "Lomo Saltado" last night. Lomo Saltado is a traditional Peruvian dish which consists of fried meat with onions, tomatoes and fries, and served on top of rice. After last night, I hope Joel can make it by himself now that he knows the recipe.

Joel making the fries!

On the left, the fries ready. To the right: at the top, the rice is ready and the sirloin, onions and tomatos are almost done.

Jonathan, I really miss your help with sudoku. It's a lot harder without you.

Why does nascar have such long races? To sell more ads. The races would be better if they were only 50 laps or one pit stop length. Nothing happens in the middle 2-3 hours of a race. The veteran drivers even get mad if anybody tries to "race" them during the beginning or middle of the race. So what are all the extra laps for? I suppose it would be hard to sell a $200 ticket to a 2 hour event.
David Reutimann (Domino's Toyota #00) is best new driver we should all root for. He has not had his personality removed by nascar yet. He had a good run in nascar trucks for a couple of years and got his "big break" this year with Michael Waltrip racing. He is also son of dirt modified veteran Buzzie Reutimann #00. And the retro chrome wheels on the car are cool too. I think he will do well, at least better than AJ. Speaking of AJ. On Nascar.com You can buy Dale Earnhardt sr. and Ricky Bobby shirts but nothing for AJ. Red Bull racing.com doesn't have any yet either.
Fox showed very poor taste in showing the in car shot of Reutimann's crash this weekend. They did not know the severity of his injuries yet continued to reply the in car shot. He was obviously disoriented and in a bad situation, and on fire. He could have been dying live on TV or seriously injured. Dale Earnhardt's crash would not have been good to show from an in car. If they had one they probably would have. There is a director somewhere who should cut away till they know the driver's condition. ESPN replayed the in car shot on Sportscenter for two days as well.
Rolex Mexico this saturday YEAH!! Auberlen YEAH!!

Honda F1's new livery. The plan is that it will help the environment. I didn't bother to read the details.

Went to a Tibetan restaurant last weekend and they had tea with butter in it. A lot of butter, thought Mother would like that.

If anybody has read any articles by Robin Miller, note, that he has recently been taken off of Champ Car's payroll.

Grandpa 50 years ago
A full two car field was on hand for Wheels Down Winter Testing in preparation for the 12 Hours of Sebring. Nelson Phillipe was behind the wheel of the Former Dyson MG Lola, while David Brabham took the wheel of the Aston Martin DBR9.

Phillipe and Brabham put down laps into the early evening.

Nelson Phillipe: "I was glad to have this opportunity to work with the Ex-Dyson team. They are a really professional group of guys and did a great job making me feel comfortable in the car. This will be my first endurance race and this evening I spent some time getting accustomed to racing in the dark. I'm very excited to race at Sebring this year."

This was the first outing for the new DBR9

David Brabham: "My main job today was to shake down this new chassis. Overall the test went really well, Prodrive and Scalextric build a really good car. The car has loads of mechanical grip which is really important since aerodynamics really don't play a major role on this scale. It's a great car to drive and it's very forgiving to the driver. "

19 below zero this morning but warming up later. The kids are having a great time. We made a short trip to Big Moose Station to see Ken. Many, many snowmobiles on the road. The snowshoeing is great with all the snow. Otherwise the snow is over your waist in the woods.

Here is a picture looking east from the Berkeley hills. Notice the vast areas of oak woodlands and California annual grasslands.

The weather has been in the 70s for the past couple days and the sky quite clear. Because we just had a lot of rain, the air didn't have very much particulate matter, either. Rachel and I went hiking in the Berkeley/Oakland hills Saturday.

Oakland is in the middle ground and SF is in the background. You can see the cranes at the Oakland container facility left of Rachel.

Looking west again with some bridge in the background.

We also went to see the hyenas in Strawberry Canyon. This is as close as I can (or would want to?) get. Try to find the hyena in the above picture.

Here are my predictions and opinions about the Daytona 500. Not that it really matters. AJ is out Boris is in. I think they need to rethink this owners points deal that locks 35 cars into the 500. I know they want to reward teams that follow the whole series but maybe the 500 should be some fun like 4 or 5 heat races taking the top 10 in each. No gaurenteed starters (Kyle Petty). Michael Waltrip has a good starting spot after all is said and done. I hope he does well will the new team. He knows how to drive drafting tracks and thats all it takes. I don't know why Fox news (Sheppard Smith will be live at Daytona friday)is covering the story like its the biggest scandal to hit sports, but they are. 10 years ago it would have been a $10,000 fine. 20 years ago they probably would have slipped it past inspection.
Tony Stewart, Dale Jr, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson are the favorites I would say. It doesn't matter where Gordon starts the race I think he and Tony are the cars to beat. I don't think Montoya will do well due to some type of bad luck. He will be fast and upfront. I would like to see Harvick win. I think if there is winner that is not one of the four favorites I mentioned it will be a Dodge.
Mike Wallace will cause a big wreck as will Jeff Green, Reed Sorensen and David Stremme (sorry Chip). Kyle Petty, Dale Jarrett, Robby Gordon, Bobby Labonte and Ken Schrader will get knocked out of the race in the wrecks caused by those above mentioned.
Jerry Mayfield is the best driver/car that should be in the race but isn't.
Champ Car, ALMS, Rolex seaons will be going full time soon so none of the NASCAR stuff will matter.

Very cold and windy today. Only a few snowmibilers out. Dad

Here is a photo of the snow we got. I have not heard an official total. I would say 18-20 inches. Snowblower worked good. Cameron had wednesday and thursday off. I will probably watch the daytona races that start at 2pm today. First race has Boris and AJ.

Noah
Nag, nag, nag! Well here I am. We enjoyed a fabulous snowstorm yesterday, although less than Noah had and about half the 32 inches that Herkimer had.

And, Peter found my missing black sock. I'm wearing it now.

Storm has taken out one Fung Wah bus.

Intersport is not using the Lola, they will be running a Creation-Judd.

Will Power was fastest at Houston testing. Si Pag confirmed as his teammate at Team Australia.

Bruno, Wirth, and Legge at Coyne, Servia at Rusport.

Hopefully, the empty seat at Toro Rosso is for Seabass, I can't wait to hear what he says about Champ Car once he's in Europe.

No one had posted anything for a while... so I thought I might as well post something for Valentines day.

To Cameron, Oliver and Noah.. you guys are lucky you got a snow day, it took me more than twice as long to walk to class (buses didn't circulate today).
