Cat sleeping spots
The unnamed cat is still finding his spots to sleep. Did I say he was big?
"The Naming of Cats, Names that never belong to more than one cat, But above and beyond there's still one name left over, And that is the name you will never guess; The name that no human research can discover-- But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess."

Project Update
I installed a new main jet, fuel filter, and clamp on air filter, in addition to a battery. The bike will start and run without a battery but the ignition cuts off at high rpm. On the subsequent test run, the top speed was a GPS indicated 34.4 mph (55.4 kph) before I ran out of road. I installed a new #70 main jet, but will experiment with a larger #75 main jet in the future. The original jet size was a #72.5 but a new one was unavailable.

Yamaha Towny
Project introduction: 1981 Yamaha Towny (Japanese domestic market model)
This was given to me for free in pieces last week. After spending a couple nights rebuilding it, I had it running and put 20 kilometers on it this weekend. It currently tops out at an indicated 40 kph but needs some tuning as that number should be closer to 45-50 kph. Look for future updates to include rejetting and paint.

Wildland fire information sources
For those that may be curious about northern California (and other) fire activity, I am providing a few links with information.
Up to date information for federally-managed incidents is posted on inciweb.org. Incidents posted here can be filtered by state (see the top right corner of the page). This includes maps and images from some fires as well as other public information.
The large fires immediately near me are the Chips Fire at over 44,000 acres south of Lake Almanor; the Reading Fire at over 27,000 acres that began in Lassen Volcanic National Park; and the Rush Fire at over 230,000 acres east of Susanville.
Another resource for information on Northern California information is the Northern California Geographic Area Coordination Center website. They also maintain a News and Notes page that is regularly updated.
For information on wildland fires that are managed by the State of California, the CalFire website provides a map of active and contained fires.
