This weekend, before getting the flu, farmer Phil built a raised bed in our back yard with concrete blocks, chicken wire, and soil. We planted tomatoes, bell peppers, a habanero chile. We also planted many herbs, IN the concrete blocks!

The chickens aren't quite sure what to think of the raised bed (surprise), but we did learn that they REALLY like watermelon rinds.

I love the raised plant bed! Great use of the blocks. Did you put anything at the bottom under the soil?
I hope Phil is feeling better.

Phil is feeling better, thankfully. Yes, we put chicken wire on the ground and weighted it down with the blocks, then put the soil in. I don't think burrowing animals will be an issue at our place, but you never know! I think the blocks were a stroke of genius also (Philip's idea)!
