Silas Christmas

  

 Aunt Heather inadvertently got Silas some pjs with Normas on them. Someone got pretty excited when he saw them.

Silas is busy, he has an important phone call.

 

Silas decided he was the king of Christmas.

Christmas is over.

Insurance only covered one night in the barn after a normal delivery, so the new parents are headed home.

Farming

I earlier this month I spent most of a week doing range seeding as part of a demonstration project. As it turns out, I could have consulted Dad on this project since he has done plenty of similar work. That is a John Deere 5400 and a Truax Flex II Series Grass Drill. Seeding 78 acres with a four foot seeding width at four mph takes a very long time.

 Philip collected some chestnuts from trees near his office. He let them dry out for a week or two then cleaned them today. We are planning to roast them on Thanksgiving.

 Silas got to hang out in his camo PJs and watch.

All Hollows Mountain Bike Race

Thursday night Oliver entered in his first mountain bike race. It was held at night at Central Park in Schenectady. He used two handle mounted headlights and one on his head.

 Philip is taking an equestrian class at UC Davis and Silas and I tagged along yesterday. Philip rode a REALLY big horse named Merlin.

 It rained during the first part of Philip's class so Silas and I played in the car. Silas loves to drive.

 After the horse class we went to the UC Davis Arboretum plant sale and bought some shade tolerant shurbs and grasses for our back yard. Silas pulled the cart.

It was way past nap time when we finally loaded the plants into the car and headed home. Silas fell asleep immediately.

Merck Forest, VT

Oliver and I did a Boy Scout backpack camping trip to Merck Forest in Vermont. It was a few miles east of Salem, NY. 2.5 mile hike in and set up camp, rained almost the whole time. Night time temp was in the mid 30's. Starting to sleet and snow hiking out on Sunday. Oliver did really good hiking with all the gear.

Maple Ski Ridge Tractor Show

Oliver went to a tractor show at Maple Ski Ridge. He brought the Jacobsen1450 tractor. He suggested they have a parade of tractors, so they did. He also drove a 2cyl John Deere Model G tractor (the one behind him in the parade photos)
