Hey everyone,

Everything is ok over here. The epicenter was in the jungle, at a 7.7 mark. Lima was at 7.5. My family is doing well, mostly scared and worried for others. The house only has a couple broken things that fell with all the tremble. Telephone lines are working again and we are hearing about several adobe houses (in poor areas) going down and some people injured. So far, it has been one of the strongest ones we've had in a pretty long time, but nothing too major.
Thanks for the concern.

We are glad to hear you are OK. Your update to the blog was our first news of the quake.

Thank God. I knew you had gone home Sunday and was immediately worried.

Is the airport open? Is Joel's visit next week still on? Keep us posted.

airports are open, national flights got cancelled but international ones are still running. My mom was flying from ft. lauderdale to lima when it happened and everything went fine. Now that they have more information on the subject, they have reported that it was a 7.9 (still 7.5 in lima)at the epicenter which was close to the coast of peru near Ica.
Joel will be able to fly in fine and not even notice a quake happened.

Glad to hear that you and your family are okay. I know that those events can be quite disconcerting to experience and I am hoping that I don't experience one that strong.

An earthquake magnitude 8 with 15 aftershocks is huge. I am glad to hear you are OK in Lima. The reports about the people just south of Lima aren't so good. Are you related to President Alan Garcia?

No, not related at all, fortunately.
